A HAND SPINNER’S COLOR ODYSSEY

A two-day excursion into the world of color and spinning, this workshop is an opportunity to explore how different paths in dyeing and fiber preparation lead to creatively colorful hand-spun skeins. We will wend our way from dye pot to drum carder to spinning wheel in the process of exploring various methods for dyeing fibers and mixing colors. The first day we will focus on techniques for dyeing and hand painting fiber. On day 2 we will work with our dyed fibers to explore many ways to combine color. FELTING

GNOMES AND WOOD SPRITES

Needle-felting is a magical art that combines well with the magical world of gnomes, elves, wood sprites, pixies, trolls, hobbits and the like. If you were entranced by The Lord of the Rings, Eragon, and The Chronicles of Narnia and can still find room in your life for fantasy, please join us while we bring fabled forest creatures to life by using a small barbed needle and some carded wool roving. It is an amazing experience to see an adorable, mischievous little face emerge from the wool full of personality and life. The needle felts the wool simply by being pushed into it repeatedly...no need for water or soap or a washing machine! There will also be a demonstration of flat (wet) felting for those who would like to clothe or otherwise decorate their creations with fabric.

Skill Level: Some experience with needle felting is helpful, but not necessary.
Instructor: Brigitte Ostrander
