RIGID HEDDLE FLIP LOOM

Okay, you fiber-addicted non-weavers out there, here’s your chance to use up all those odds and ends of yarn in your stash and learn a new fiber art in the process. This is a non-threatening introduction to weaving using a rigid heddle flip loom that has no treadles to manipulate, no heddles to thread, and doesn’t take up a lot of space. This little loom is comfortable, compact, sturdy...and it folds in a jiffy for storage or transport! This feature makes weaving almost as portable as knitting and crochet...you can weave on your lunch break, at the beach, while camping, or take it to a workshop. The Flip can be dressed in a flash and accommodates warps up to 5 or 6 yards long, and up to 25” wide...perfect for weaving scarves, table mats, towels, fabric for bags, and many other items. WEBS was founded to supply weavers with yarns and equipment...come on in, take the class, and help us continue the tradition. Use of a loom is included in the tuition.

TWILLS, TWILLS AND MORE TWILLS

On a 4 –Shaft Loom

This course is designed to meet the needs of those who have been weaving for a short time and those who have not woven recently but want to get started again. As twills are the foundation for many weaves, we will weave a twill gamp (sampler) that includes regular twills, M’s and W’s, skip twill, advancing twills and others. We will discuss the structure of each of these twill weaves, do drawdowns on paper and learn how to alter the appearance of the cloth by changing the tie-up and treadling sequences. Your gamp will serve as a library of weaves to refer back to many times. If you have a loom in good working condition, please bring it. If you need a loom, please contact Customer Service.

A TASTE OF SAORI WEAVING* with MIHOKO WAKABAYASHI

Saori weaving is an improvisational free style of weaving which originated in Japan. It is based on Zen principles of spontaneity and self-discovery. In this unusual workshop, participants can “taste” the technique without having to warp the loom. You can learn how to wind bobbins, move a shuttle to make the weft, and learn a few tricks to make interesting patterns; the loom will be dressed and ready for you to give this technique a try. Saori allows you to express your creativity; there are no rules, no mistakes, and no experience is necessary. You will find this an easy, therapeutic, and fun activity. At the end of the class you will take home a finished scarf. Materials are provided.

WOVEN BEADED JEWELRY WITHOUT A LOOM*

A few colors of cotton yarn, some interesting beads, a tapestry needle, and a piece of corkboard; that’s all you need to make a unique woven and beaded necklace. The process is easy to learn and no weaving experience is necessary. You’ll choose from a selection of patterns, place beads where you want them, and then weave with the needle, using simple tapestry techniques. By the end of the class you will have made a one-of-a-kind piece of wearable art. And, you’ll go home with the tools and training to continue this very portable weaving hobby.
