RIGID HEDDLE FLIP LOOM WEAVING* for Knitters and Other Non-Weavers  (Kids Welcome)
Okay, you fiber-addicted non-weavers out there, here’s your chance to use up all those odds and ends of yarn in your stash and learn a new fiber art in the process.  This is a non-threatening introduction to weaving using a rigid heddle flip loom that has no treadles to manipulate, no heddles to thread, and doesn’t take up a lot of space.  This little loom is comfortable, compact, sturdy...and it folds in a jiffy for storage or transport!  This feature makes weaving almost as portable as knitting and crochet...you can weave on your lunch break, at the beach, while camping, or  take it to a workshop.  The Flip can be dressed in a flash and accommodates warps up to 5 or 6 yards long, and up to 25” wide...perfect  for weaving scarves, table mats, towels, fabric for bags, and many other items.   WEBS was founded to supply weavers with yarns and equipment...come on in, take the class, and help us continue the tradition!  Looms provided.

Note: This class can be used as an elective for the Expert Knitter Program.

SAORI WEAVING
Saori weaving is an improvisational free style weaving from Japan.  It is based on Zen principles of spontaneity and self-discovery.    In this workshop, participants can experience the unique Saori warping process, weave spontaneously with their own intuition and inner artistic sense, and bring home one-of-a-kind finished items in one day.  No experience is necessary; just bring yourself and be ready to play.  Saori allows students to experiment, express their feelings, and relax through weaving.  A wheelchair-accessible loom will be available.  Yarn for your warp is included in the tuition.  Looms provided.

4-END BLOCK WEAVE FOR RUGS  with Jason Collingwood
This 3-day workshop is an exploration of 4-end block weave, which is an excellent structure for rugs and one that provides a very strong, clean look.  Starting with the basics, emphasis will be put on increasing design possibilities with the employment of various techniques, included in which will be ‘constant colour’,’ constant lift’ and ‘clasped wefts’. Introducing plain weave into the structure will allow us to explore the popular weave known as summer and winter.  Shaft switching will be explained in relation to this structure, and possible ways of adapting your loom to explore this exciting technique will also be covered.  The class will also include instruction on how to set up your loom correctly for rug weaving. Twining at the beginning and end of the rug, darning in of the loose ends, use of the temple and many other invaluable tips for successful rug weaving will be discussed.  The class concludes with a look at rug finishes; a few of the many finishes will be demonstrated.  Loom rental may be available.

8-SHAFT HUCK LACE
Huck lace is primarily a plain-weave cloth with either warp floats, weft floats, or a combination of both.  Floats are made when the warp or weft is not  woven in plain-weave fashion, but lays on top or under the cloth for 3 or 5 threads - depending on the type of huck lace  you are weaving.  Huck lace fabric can be used for many things: curtains, tablecloths, baby blankets, kitchen towels, etc.  This 3-session workshop will provide an introduction to designing 8-harness huck lace, a fabric of unusual richness and diversity.  Participants will design and weave short projects during the time between classes.  Students must have access to an 8-harness loom, should understand basic drafting principles, and should feel comfortable dressing a loom and weaving a short project within two weeks.

Skill Level: Intermediate
Instructor: Scott Norris
Dates: Wed., July 23, August 6, 20
Time: 6:30pm - 9:30pm
Tuition: $75.00
