I'm a long-time Webs customer. The shopping and shipping experience with this purchase was great, but sadly, the yarn itself is less than stellar. I've used Valley linen in heavier weights successfully in the past. However, this particular 20/2 linen has given me trouble. My biggest complaint is that I've had so many broken warp threads! This linen has thick and thin areas and lots of neps, which may contribute to variations in the tensile strength of this yarn. I don't have any crossed threads, and I'm keeping close attention to tension, but I'm only a third of the way through my project, and the back of my loom looks like a Christmas tree because of all the weights hanging off the back for repair threads. . On the positive side, I've only come across one or two knots out of three cones, which is reasonable to me. Also, there are large sections of yarn which are nice, beautiful, and smooth. I'm confident that the extra hassle will be worth it in the end. There's nothing quite like the feel of linen that has been washed and worn until it softens.
I used this as a weft yarn for some Inkle weaving and it performed great! No breaking. 😊😊
I've bought yarn from Webs, well over 40+ yrs, and just a couple weeks ago and will buy from them again. This yarn wonderful (unbleached) for towels along with tops, blankets etc. It warps up great on my 2 looms. (floor & ridged heddle). I mist the warp so I've never had any issues with it shredding or breaking, flax linen is stronger when damp/wet. It's also great for knitting and crocheting. Would I recommend it...yes!!
