Madaket Tank

A floral lace pattern adorns the upper front and back of this sleeveless tank, and the flower “stems” are carried into the body of the tank, creating flattering vertical lines. All edgings are self-finished; underarm gussets allow the armhole edgings to continue unbroken from underarm to shoulder, while keeping the armhole from being too deep.

Madaket is a small village on Nantucket Island, and includes a beach and harbor of the same name. It’s easy to get there from Nantucket town: just take Main Street to Madaket Road, and head west! The stitch pattern I used for this tank reminds me of the densely layered gardens found in the compact yards of many Nantucket homes.

Worked in the round from the bottom up to the armholes.

Difficulty Intermediate: skills include reading charts, lace knitting, decreasing and increasing, short-row shaping, and three-needle bind-off.
